The Influence of Paclobutrazol (PP333) Treatment on the Growth and Development of Tulipa gesneriana L.

Abstract
|
|
|
The present experiment was undertaken to study the growth and flowering responses of Tulipa gesneriana L. to bulb cold temperature, PP333 and PP333-I-GA₃ treatments when potted forcing was exerted.
When tulip bulb did not receive cold treatment, flowering percentages of cvs. Merry Widow and West Point were greatly decreased. Flowering date of dry stored bulb at 5℃ for 6weeks was somewhat delayed, and inhibition of the flower stem elongation with PP333 was also irregular in its effect.
Reduction of the flower stem elongation by 1 and 2㎎ a.i./pot soil drenching of PP333 was markedly sensitive for these concentrations when bulbs were stored at 5 C for 6 or 9weeks.
Flower-bud blind or blasting, for cv. Red Matador with PP333 were completely reversed by GA₃200㎎/ℓ treatment, and thus GA₃ can reverse retardation of the flower stem elongation by soil drenches of PP333 treatment.
It is therefore, concluded that PP333 and GA₃ can be used effectively for potted tulip production when optimum concentrations are applied.
